Best wedding venues in Melbourne CBD

Hosting your wedding at a venue in Melbourne CBD? Learn more about our wedding videography in Melbourne CBD.

As wedding videographers, we’ve been to our fair share of wedding venues. So we thought why not do the hard work for you and compile a list of some of our favourite venues in the Melbourne CBD and surrounds? Each with their own special something, there is sure to be a Melbourne wedding venue here that suits the vibe you’re after.

Metropolis Events

Melbourne meets New York. Metropolis Events Melbourne is all style and sophistication. Perfectly positioned at the top level of Southgate, there is not only a  view of the skyline, but so many of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks. Imagine a view of the Yarra River, Flinders Street Station and Federation Square all one place and literally unmissable thanks to some 9 metre high windows and an outdoor terrace.

Plaza Ballroom

Melbourne meets magnificence… And truly, because magnificent may be one of the only words we have to describe the Plaza Ballroom. Located at the Regent Theatre conveniently along Collins Street, this venue is iconic. This now restored ballroom dates back to 1929 and fits between 200- 1200 guests. With a photo op at every corner, Plaza Ballroom is a dream to capture. With the theatre, and Collins Street right outside, to the staircase, chandeliers and grandeur of inside, we are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to videography here.

Luminare

Speaking of rooftop views, Luminare South Melbourne dominates in this field. This venue might not be in the heart of the CBD, but nothing is more reflective of Melbourne culture than a secret alleyway entrance. That is until you reach that breathtaking rooftop space and are greeted with stunning views of the cityscape. Think cosmopolitan and versatile. This space is yours and it can be made radiant and floral as easily as it can be made moody and chic.

Quat Quatta

Who says you can’t get married in an Old Victorian mansion, only 20 minutes outside the Melbourne CBD? Quat Quatta is a boutique venue is perfect for wedding ceremonies and reception. Suited for smaller to larger weddings seating 50-160 guests or 200 guests cocktail style. Think dramatic yet subtle dining room, intimate and romantic courtyard and architecture galore. There’s something magic about the space, and all year round we might add, catering for all weather conditions. Very Melbourne.

The Park

Another fantastic venue only a hop, skip and a jump out of the Melbourne CBD is The Park in Albert Park. This location is quite literally a breath of fresh air. It’s open, filled with light and home to some unmatchable lakeside views. All the details come together to make for a venue that is somehow both tranqiaul and extravagant. Definitely a fusion we can get around. The Park comfortably fits between 50-500 wedding guests, so if you’re going for an intimate, large wedding, or anything in between, this venue is sure to suit your needs.

Leonda by the Yarra

On the theme of waterfront locations, we couldn’t look past Leonda by the Yarra. It’s in the name really, so you bet this venue lives on the banks of Melbourne’s iconic Yarra River. 20 minutes out of the CBD in Hawthorn your dream wedding could be waiting for you. The ballroom at Leonda by the Yarra seats between 150-400 guests who are all sure to be impressed by the elegant and dare we say, radiance of the venue.

Fenix Events

Fenix Events in Richmond is another Melbourne venue home to Yarra River views. This food focused venue is filled with every opportunity for your wedding day. There are locations for wedding ceremonies and options perfect for smaller or larger reception festivities. The River Terrace can hold up to 150 guests banquet style, with the Panorama room suitable for larger guest lists and dance floor. And did I forget to mention all the opportunities for footage? You really can’t complain when your venue includes a staircase leading right down to the Yarra River itself.

Half Acre

Half Acre is another South Melbourne gem, 10 minutes out of the heart of the city. This one is restaurant, bar, and event space combined. And, wow, talk about an event space. It’s just grand enough, but just intimate enough. Half Acre is that perfect balance. It may be all sleek and all modern, but there’s something so warm about this venue. We can’t decide whether it’s the high ceilings, timber,  lush greens, or maybe a combination of all these details. Seated with a space for your guests to boogie, this venue fits 220, or alternatively cocktail style with 400 wedding guests.

Two Ton Max

15 minutes of the city, we had to include Two Ton Max, because if you’re after a wedding venue with a difference, this industrial warehouse in North Melbourne is for you. Holding up to 200 seated guests, this space is your perfect wedding canvas and we really do mean it. You will have total freedom detailing and furnishing this location as you please, and if that sounds great, we haven’t even gotten to our favourite part. Keeping all things green in mind, Two Ton Max has re-purposed quite a few pieces of infrastructure from the venue’s past life. Materials where possible have been re-used, so you’ll find things like the front gate, stairs and handrails all part of the venue’s evolutionary story.

Crown

How does one look past Crown Melbourne? The heart of the city, Crown is an iconic venue studded with rooms to suit the most intimate to the most extravagant of weddings. Not to mention that each room showcases its own impressive view of the city.

The Garden Room is classic and perfect for a small wedding with absolute elegance and holds up to 80 guests. For something a little more spacious, the River Room can hold between 150-220 guests with a beautiful accompanying balcony.

Still need more room? Well how about the Palladium at Crown, a pretty impressive ballroom holding between 250- 1100 guests. This one has high ceilings, breathtaking lighting, and plenty of space to have your guests tearing up the dance floor.

Before lastly Crown Aviary, and just quietly, maybe one of our personal favourites at Crown. Because really, there’s not much that beats the view of Melbourne from the top. The gorgeous outdoor deck holds 300 seated guests, and up to 550 in a cocktail setting.

Alto Event Space

Nothing shouts Melbourne more than rooftop, warehouse style, and the GPO Building on the corner of Elizabeth and Little Bourke Street. So naturally Alto Event Space is ticking all the boxes.  If you’re after a blank space to create your own vision, paired with high ceilings, concrete floors and views of the Melbourne CBD then you really don’t need to look any further. Alto Event Space can hold up to 400 guests cocktail, and 150 seated. Perfect for ceremony, reception and that Melbourne city photo op. Need we say more?
